Akismet is great, I use it too. However, all akismet held comments should be viewed before deletion. If akismet catches your comment, for whatever reason, and the blog owner deletes, you are now on akismet's blacklist. It happened to me, fortunately I caught it fast and akismet took care of the problem immediately.

That is a little silly - why would Akismet add you to the blacklist the first time one of your comments is flagged as spam? I would have thought that it would take at least 3 spam-like comments before it blacklists you. To avoid legitimate commenters getting blacklisted.

I would think so too. I don't know, but I do know that while I comment on a lot of blogs, I make sure that my comments are relevant and contribute something to the discussion.

I could see it if all I was doing was saying "Great idea, nice site btw!" to get links, but I don't.

I agree with you on all fronts. My comments are so few and far between that filtering them manually usually takes me about 5 minutes per month.

Nice blog you got here. I like what I see so far...I'll have to check out the rest.
