Great write up and review of necessary WP plugins. I used to be a strong advocate of Akismet as another additional level of 'spam' blocking. Although after implementing it I had several of my top commenter's disappear to email me that they were pissed I was 'blocking' their comments and filtering them out. Needless to say I removed that plugin ASAP. For those of you that are having trouble losing some of your best commenters that could be the reason why.

Lindsay, I believe you have to host your own WordPress blog to be able to use the WordPress plugins.

I have a question.> I am ENTIRELY new to the whole blogging world.. Can you use these plug ins on a blog that is hosted BY wordpress, or do you have to install your own blog on your host and add plugins that way??

I thought allowing dofollow comments would increase spam and hurt search rankings. But since it helps to stimulate comments, it is certainly worthwhile.

Yeah, WordPress stats does seem to slow down the blog; but my blog is slow enough that you wouldn't notice if I turned it off. Haha, I have way too many plugins and modifications and the K2 theme doesn't help much either.

What is your experience with Wordpress stats? I have read a few reports that it slows down your blog because it accesses your database too much. For stats I have just been using Google Analytics, which I install manually (without a plugin)

I joined in and created my own button-image on my blog's footer, to remove the "nofollow" code on comments I had to install this plugin.

@bull3t - What is your reasoning behind that thought? Increasing the functionality of the platform would be a benefit to all. Is there some underlying issue that you see that would cause you to lean that way? Just to be clear, I am referring to the comment you made on June 7th....

My site is part of the movement as well. I'm hoping that Wordpress catches on eventually and adds it in as an option. Maybe someone should ask them about it. I will check these other plugins out as well.

Thanks for being a part of the "I Follow" movement. I don't know why Wordpress doesn't just make NoFollow/DoFollow an option in the dashboard. At any rate, I think you have a great site going here. I need to make myself a plugins used page like you have.
